ABOUT PEACE ADVOCATORS' NETWORK

 

Over the years, Nigerians have been divided along religious, political differences and socio-ethnic diversity and if we don't resolve these challenges peacefully to see ourselves as "One Nigeria", it will be difficult to achieve the Nigeria we all dream of, hence the need for peace advocators to bring everybody together as One Nigeria through peace advocacies and peaceful conflict resolutions to many of the timid crisis that surround our different sectors. This was the passion that gave birth to Peace Advocators Network.

 

There is need to advocate unity and peace with love for sustainable development of Nigeria. Everyday, people suffer and lives are destroyed because of hate speeches and different agitations that is increasing tensions in Nigeria. It is believed that all the agitation ongoing in Nigeria is caused by mostly people that don't feel loved, safe and are non tolerance of one another. These aggrieved people are transferring that frustration into agitation which if not addressed, it can be hijacked and transform to different violent crisis and even on the long run to another civil war. If we love and show little piece of love to each other, and the aggrieved people are advocated peace to, relative peace will be achieved in Nigeria. If we advocate peace this way, Nigeria will be on the part of been great again.

 

Furthermore, according to the religious books in Mathew 5:9 and Hebrew 12:14 of the bible that says Only peace makers and lovers of peace are to be called the true children of God and will see God. More also, Quran 3:159 and Quran 49:10 says all Muslims are to be united in peace with one another because Islam is a religion of love and peace. Peace advocacy and religious tolerance will play a lot of role in the unity formation of a more peaceful Nigeria. If we advocate love and tolerance for one another regardless of our religious differences and ethnic diversity, we can achieve relative peace and sustainable unity in Nigeria.

 

OUR VALUES

We believe in:

  1. One Nigeria:
    The one Nigeria goal is having all Nigerians living together peacefully and in unity as "One" regardless of political, religious differences and ethnic diversity.

  2. Non-violence:
    We believe passionately in non-violence. Conflict is a normal part of life but violence is not. We believe that non-violent action is not only the morally right thing to do; it is also highly cost effective, scalable and strengthens the prospects for long term peace.

  3. The power of people: We believe that local people are central to the resolution of their own conflicts. Peace cannot be sustainable if it is imposed on people from the outside.

  4. Partnership & respect: The relationships we build with different organisations must be based on the principles of equality and respect. We have more to learn from our partners than they do from us and we see ourselves as an extension of their organisations, not the other way around.

  5. Peace for Unity: We believe passionately in the power of Peace to achieve greater united Nigeria.

  6. Education: we believe that with education through different sensitization workshops, trainings and peace talk, we can to a large extent affect the minds of individuals which automatically begin to affect their thought patterns, lives and in effect, help our responses to whatever poses a challenge to national peace



    7. We are:

  • Non-partisan, non-political, non-religious and non-tribal:
    We do not take sides in a conflict, but this does not mean that we will not speak out when rights are being violated.
  • Innovative: We are nimble, creative and unafraid to challenge orthodox thinking.
  • Independent: we are an independent organisation funded by peace loving people of Nigeria (local and diaspora) and other organizations through their voluntary donations.

 

What we do

We will advocate peace through different advocacy programmes and resolutions to:

  • prevent conflict and violent situation in the environment
  • address conflict and violent situation in the environment
  • maintain a peaceful and united environment for all
